The Mexican government along with U.S. forces has been fighting a drug war for the past year. Violence and death are just part of everyday life for the citizens who live in these war zones. The drug cartels maintain their control be limiting the amount of information that is getting out about their illegal activities. The people who witness these acts first hand are too scared to give the information to authorities. The one thing that the drug cartels did not count on was all the social networking sites available to people now.
People are more inclined to use technology to report information rather than doing in person. The social networking media allows a person to report on what is happening and not worry about the drug cartels finding out. The war that is going right now is going to be a defining moment for Mexico. They are in a very volatile situation and their government is in danger of collapse. Social networking sites may not fix the situation but they are helping it.

There has been a lot of bad that has come from social networking sites. People stalked, harassed or even killed. It is good to hear about some good coming from them. people are so connected these days But it is devastating that crime is so bad there and retaliation is a big problem its good citizens have an outlet to report crime.
ReplyDeleteAfter just commenting on how social media sites are the demise to civilization as we know it, reading something positive that comes out of today's technology certainly brings a better light on our e-society as a whole. Like almost all powerful tools, they can be used for both good or evil, and it's usually not us who gets to decide.
ReplyDeleteIt is crazy to think that this sort of thing happens in the same continent that we share borders with. And in America we do not have to deal with this sort of crime and civil injustice that people have to endure on a daily basis. I just hope this whole situation will be ended and Mexico can move on to better things and its people do not have to worry for their lives and their family. And its good to see that these social media sites are concentrating and helping for the good of the people.
ReplyDeleteAll knowledge is a double edged sword. It can be used for so much good and bad at the same time. The social networking sites are no different. They are fountains of knowledge and provide access to that knowledge to the world.
