So I wanted my last blog to be important and meaning but, it isn't. I am amazed to have finally finished this class and this semester. I graduate on sunday and am very exicted to take the next step into my masters. I am going to get a masters in MSIS and am exicted to see how difficult it is.

So this weeks blog is about how apples iPhone broke their sales records this quarter. "iPhone sales were at an all-time high," said Peter Oppenheimer. They said its due to the abilities of the iPhone is why its having so much success. Competitors are having trouble competing with its possibilities.

The iPhone is a great success for Apple Inc. It really gave them the upperhand in the world of smart phone. I found this story on computerworld.com and this is the exact link to find the information you might be interested in.

Hackers exploit new Java zero-day bug

So since I have 3 blogs left, I was looking around for new's on computers. And the first this I found was pretty relevant to this class. It has to do with songlyrics.com users who would be sent to Russian sites which would attack their computers. So the work they did would hack the site and enter an IFRAME to the site. They also said it attacks new the IE and Firefox servers.

They talk about the upcoming possible copy cats. Because it is so easy to copy and the code is simple. "It's so easy to use and copy that I would expect that it'll be in the [exploit tool]kits in a few days." Roger Thompson said. Roger Thompson is the chief researcher at AVG Technologies.

It looks like there was a conversation about how Travis Ormandy reported to Sun. And they declined to put out a new patch. "They informed me they do not consider this vulnerability to be of high enough priority to break their quarterly patch cycle," Ormandy wrote on the mailing list. "I explained [to them] that I did not agree, and intended to publish advice to temporarily disable the affected control until a solution is available."

I dont know if everybody knows but the annual football spring game is April 18th at 2pm. We would really appreciate everybodys support, come and check out how we've been working to create a culture here at Eastern with a winning football program.

But on another note I wanted to point out another example of AXAJ that is used at emueagles.com. When you log onto the website there is a constant update of scores of games that just happened. There is also updates on each team and program.

When clicking on the football area, first go to mens sports, then you will see all the information you could use to know more about your football team. There is a ticker that shows the most recent updates and the most recent things that the team is up to. Even on the far right they show what practice we are up to, which updates itself everyday. This could possibly help us with our project if zwire doesn't end up working.

Pandora radio

Ok so it being so nice out today, I wanted to talk about the service I use daily and love because to the variety. It's called Pandora radio, it is a website that offers music the way you want it. Check it out at pandora.com. I know this isn't exactly class related but I wanted to show my appreciation and look at another example of AJAX in effect.

First start by opening Pandora.com and typing in an artist that you enjoy listening to. The first song will be by that artist and is usually a popular song. Then the second song will be by another artist in the same genre and the same type of music. For instance, I listen to country and typed in Darryl Worley the first song was "Awful, Beautiful life" the second song was Keith Urban "Making memories of us" and the third song was Dierks Bentley "Free and Easy. While not the same artist it is a similar sound and something I like listening to.

The reason I wanted to blog about this topic because it reminded me of a way AJAX works. Pandora is expecially nice because it streams straight from the internet(no download necessary) and plays a song while giving you updates on artist. Howstuffworks.com says that for every four minute song it takes roughly 20-30 minutes to to examine. With 400 attributes being scanned. Another feature they have is the "thumbs up-thumbs down" if you decide you like a song it will find other songs by that artist or closer to that type. If you dont like a song chose "thumbs down" and it will refrain from songs of that type. Another example of AJAX is they give you the option of buying the music from amazon.com.

Hope this opens someones eyes when they are sitting at home and are tired of searching for songs they like on youtube.com.

XOS Football coaching software

XOS is a software we use everyday at football. It is run by databases, and I would like to pursue a job when I graduate. It is a program that once inputed helps you watch practice or games as if they were happening in front of you. Also there is a way to fastforward, rewind, slowdown, and stop a specific play to help the coach coach.

XOS is constantly looking to expand their programs by asking coaches about what needs to be removed, improved and added. Programs all around the country use XOS, from big to small programs.

I was thinking XOS could convert to an online orientated company. I know alot of teams trade film of other teams. If they could convert the passing of film through their company they would force schools to use their service instead of competitors. If universities could log onto the server, and find then information they are looking for it would save their time and money. Check out their website and see what its all about xostech.com.

Apple Inc.

The other day I had to read a case paper about Apple Inc. It was interesting to see how Apple started out and how they revolutionized a lot of the technology we know today. Apple Computer joined the world in 1976, when Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak began making computer circuit boards in their garage. A while back Steve Jobs was fired, which is one thing I never knew. Here is some examples of things that we use that might not exist without Apple and Steve Jobs.

Apple created things such as the iPod, Mac, iPhone, and millions of apps that we use everyday. Apple has created two great partnerships, one with AT&T when they created the iPhone, did you know Steve Jobs went to Verizon also, but Verizon turned down his offer. Steve Jobs wanted to own all the rights to iPhone but pair up with a strong wireless service to offer great connection. He told AT&T that they wont have any control over what he does or how it’s offered. And although reluctant they took the offer that Verizon had turned down.

Another great partnership is Apple and Nike. They have created the Nike + iPod. Nike + iPod has a chip that as you go bike or run it will track of the distance and speed from your previous workout. Also it has a feature that when you begin to slow down it will change the song in your iPod and gives you a previously selected “pump up” song to help you keep up your goal. General Electric and HealthyMagination

General Electric is one of the strongest companies of our era. As you watch the Olympics I’m sure you see all the commercials for Healthymagination.com. That is GE’s new approach, to help create better health for more people in the future.

As I look through the website, GE has a lot of projects. Some examples of these projects are Morsel, which is a smart phone app that helps people make healthier decisions. The idea of better health communication can be an example of real life ajax, they found a way to meet WebMD and healthymagination to create a database of your information so yoru doctors can see more about your history faster.

GE also has a blog site for healthymagination. I thought it’d be helpful to show you all what it looks like, healthymagination.com/blog. The most recent post talks about if the iPad could revolutionize health care. Like I said they are converting WebMD and healthymagination together to help doctors.

I wanted to talk about GE because ultimately I would love to work for them. They are always looking to the future, and are finding ways to help people all over the world.

Avatar, revolutionizes movie going

Have you all seen Avatar yet? Its an incredible movie, Directed by James Cameron who also produced Titanic and Terminator 2. James Cameron has produced some of the biggest selling movies of all time. Alot of the information I got were from the Discovery Channel and the link will take you directly to words with James Cameron.

As he created the movie, He wanted to create aliens that looked like humans but didn't want then to be to much like humans. He wanted to make sure the actors/actresses would show every facial movement, from lips to their eyes. Using a helmet that watched their face in every scene, then they converted it into the aliens.

He then talks about the 3D part of the movie, He didnt want to use gimmicks. Instead he wanted to use the way your eyes worked in real life, like when you hold your hand in front of your face and look past it you see both your hand and the wall. He wanted this so the audience was in the movie, not like we are watching a movie.

I want to talk about Pandora, which is the planet that the movie is located on. The creatures on this planet resemble the real like animals we see everyday. He used our Horses to create the 6 legged horses located on Pandora. When they used the information that we are used to, it made us(the viewer) step into the world and feel like we want to be a part of it.

I need help, AJAX issues.

I don't know if this is what were looking for in a blog, but I need the class's help. I'm attempting to do this Iteration 1, and I'm having trouble making my button information show up on the site.

What I am attempting to do is create a javascript where there is a button and when it is clicked on it shows some text where the button used to be. I have been looking at websites to help me, and the one that I found the most information on was W3school.com. They had exactly what I was looking for. And I'm beginning to understand how the javascript works. But how do I get the information to show up.

If anybody has been able to do their script like this please post on this blog with any advice. And like I said I'm trying to create a button to where when it is clicked on the information shows up where the button used to be. All the examples I have seen shows where the information shows up on another site, but being that we can not do our Iteration 1 like that I need to know how to put them up on the actual site I am using. I am attempting to use an HTML but is that correct? If I want the information to show up on the exact site I am using as the host.

Web2.0

I originally wanted to talk about AJAX, and the issues I had with chapter 1. But when searching AJAX I found this picture and wanted everyone to see it. It is about Web 2.0.

It talks about the Consumer Web 2.0, which includes things like social networking and HTML Mash ups. Also talks about Enterprise Web 2.0, which includes Software As A Service, and Enterprise Mash up. And finally in the middle it has Social Computing which includes things like blogs and social networks.

Now I wanted to know more about these 3 areas of Web2.0 and why they are different, I found this website Enterprise Web 2.0 and CI: It talks about the difference and how social networking has affected the enterprise community because they can buy and sell things through these social networks.

Verison vs AT&T

So I'm here watching football, and I'm curious as to why Verizon and AT&T have all these 3g commercials. I've never taken the time to look into the 3g network, I don't use smart phones because I drop my phone way to often and haven't found a phone that wont break that gives me all of these options. So when I watched all of these commercials I was curious as to who really was telling the truth, and who really has the best 3g options.

During one of the commercials, AT&T used Luke Wilson to advertise, well he got a call from his friend who was on a TV show and it sounded like he were on who wants to be a millionaire. Well he asked a question and Luke used his phone to search the answer. My issue is how often does that really happen, I don't really need to be on the phone and look up things. If I wanted to do that why be on the phone? Because I'm not really listening to who ever I'm on the phone with.

Now on the other side, Verizon has commercials with "Maps" how 3g is everywhere in America. And they make it very clear that their 3g coverage is much better, I was looking at websites and this one caught my eye. its quite entertaining http://flowingdata.com/2009/11/24/verizon-vs-att-battle-of-the-coverage-maps/. I like the part where AT&T filed a lawsuit against Verizon for showing that their coverage didn't work in parts of the area, they claimed that Verizon was trying to hurt their image and that they have regular coverage in those areas just not 3g coverage.

Blogging 101

So when I heard we were blogging, I was nervous and excited. I have read blogs before but never actually wrote a blog. So I wanted to search the best and most efficient way to blog. I searched exactly that on google.

The first thing that this specific website says it to tell the audience exactly what your talking about, and where this blog is headed. It also talks about being a great writer (which I am not). The next thing it says is to not save your most important information for the end, but to engage your readers early and often. Finally it talks about using catchy titles, so your readers want to come back and so they are interested in what your saying.

Another website, has a few points of how to start a blog. After you have a website and know what to write about, you want to decide how often to post. It is recommended that you should have about a months worth of blogs before starting your blog. Once the blog is started the best way to expand your blog is to tell your friends, and ask them to tell their friends. And finally it says to use other blogs that your interested in, to give your blog some depth and to give your readers a chance to see more into your life.
