14. Library of congress to archive tweets

Yes, I made It to blog 14. Is everyone on twitter? It seems only yesterday people were asking what is a tweet. Even the government believe that tweets should be saved for historical reasons. The library of congress plans to archive tweets. In total twitter users send more than 50 million tweets a day. There is approximately 104 million twitter users. Library congress states that they will not archive personal tweets but only the ones they consider scholarly and for research.

The library uses this opportunity to embrace the digital media. Library is trying to used updated forms of communication for research and historical purposes. Twitter CEO agreed to allow the archived files to be saved by congress. Twitter CEO is excited about the news.

So if you are on twitter just think your tweets could be saved forever in library of congress catalogs. A hundred years later people can for whatever reason view what you were talking about on twitter. Its going to be an expensive process but i don't see myself looking up old tweets at the library.

Google Cloud Printing

Yes the end is almost here. But any ways my blog for the week is about google cloud printing. Well google keep concocting ideas and there new one is prints. Google labs is planning to create an application that allows users to print from any internet based computer. according to techworldnews.com the google cloud print is said to revolve around google operating system, Chrome. All the applications are said to be webbased.

It seems that printers must be cloud aware. Google would have to work with the manufactuers of printers to get there idea up and running., since none are cloud print ready. The printers would have to connect through google through a proxy.

Several issues with cloud printing are privacy and securtiy. Google plans to combat any issue with with the two by allowing only authorized users to print from printers and keeping private information only availble to the person who requested the print. I think that cloud print will work for google but how well i don't know.

HP's Slate

HP slate may be better than Apple's ipad. HP slate has more features that users want like built in camera and usb ports. unlike the ipad the slate uses flash. it is also said Microsoft and hp will team up to overpower apples ipad.

the slate may be good for PC lovers and since ipad is expecting to change the future of computers i know Microsoft is eager to stop them. Google also plans to try and topple Apple with there plans in creating tablet of there own.

More and more companies are following after Apple and try to create there version of the ipad with hopes of gaining market share and becoming the king of the tablet. google and Toshiba are planning releases of similar tablets. I don't know how the slate will do compared to the ipad but if the slate is truly better hopefully consumers will see it.

Cisco Valet wireless

Cisco has recently unveiled two new wireless routers for users. The new routers are suppose to be much more simpler for installation and setup process. Cisco target market seems to be for home and small office use. The routers are called Valet. this is the first time cisco uses its name for consumer wireless. Cisco does own linksys a dominate home router. this another step towards cisco goal to become a house hold brand.

According to a study one and four consumers return wireless routers due to the fact they are unable to setup it up properly. Cisco goal is to make the wireless setup and use as simple as possible. the cost of the routers will be $100 and 150 for the longer range model. Cisco router will come with a flash drive for installation part instead of CD's like other routers.

I think since more and more computer users are not tech savvy even a little bit Cisco had to come out the simple way. But also who likes lengthy setups anyway. I'm for the easy setup. Cisco wants to tap in the home market so they had to make it user friendly.

Go Daddy may follow Google from China

A recent report from Cnet news says after today's congressional hearing with China, GoDaddy.com plans to stop registering domain names in China. The reason being is new regulations requires a great deal of information from China users. Users are now required to submit a picture and business licenses number. GoDaddy plans to continue to manage existing .cn users but not allow any new registrants.

GoDaddy has had an increase of Distributed Denial of Service or DDOS in the past few months from China. Censorship has been a problem in China. This is the first time a governemt has ask the company to seek additional information from its customers.

I think China is a very strict company so some companies should leave China. Hackers in China are not only threatening to the companies but to the users of the company. Hackers could get control of private information. GoDaddy might follow google and who is moving their severs to Hong Kong where the laws are less strict.

CSS styling

OK I'm working on my individual iteration style of my web page. I did a little styling in Is247 but its been awhile so i don't really remember. I searched the web for some styling tips and i found that w3schools.com has a good tutorial to get you started. I worked through some of the examples which is good practice and it gave me some ideas on how i want to setup my website. the website has its own editor where you can fidget around with it.

I noticed that i have to play around with Css code so i can get it to do exactly what I want. For my final project I'm thinking about adding a several images to the style also maybe a specific background color and specific positioning of my APIs.

I still trying to get the styling of my web page down. I am going to continue to surf the web for some other examples hopefully i will have it down pack for the final individual project.

Google labs

Over the weekend I was working with google labs for help with my iterations. According to google With the AJAX Feed API, you can download any public Atom or RSS feed using only JavaScript, so you can easily mash up feeds with your content and other APIs like the Google Maps API. The labs offer a lot of help with google maps like how to add markers and boxes to your maps.

Labs are good for people who have there own websites or blogger. You can integrate feeds on your website easily. I was able to use the Ajax feed and pull information from a blog without using php. The labs also have information on other apis and helps you with JavaScript.

I know javascript is already enough to learn and then you put php on top of it. I don't have much knowledge on php either. So google api could be a bit simpler to integrate. I was testing out the feed control wizard I was able to pull headings from a specific blog. I'm thinking about adding it to my final iteration.

Iteration 2

Iteration 2 was not the best thing for me well first I had a hard time figuring out what to do. I didn't really know what apis to use and how to put it all together. I used programmableweb.com for some much needed inspiration. I decided to use a popular api Google maps. It was easy to get the map to display on the web page because google gives you the code to do that.

The problem i had was getting the map to do what I wanted it to do. For my final iteration I want to incorporate google maps using specific city locations, news and weather. When I click on a location in the drop down menu I want the map to display the location a rss feed for news and the current weather conditions.

I am able to do the proxy pass through with a rss feed. now I need to incorporate maps and the weather. I'm using the weather channel api, I registered the it already but i still need to try and implement it. Hopefully I can get it together by the due date.

DBMS expected increase

DBMS is expected to have an increase in vendors. The competition for DBMS for 2010-2011 is on the rise. though DBMS market is getting a competition boost the same market leaders like Oracle, IBM and Microsoft will continue to dominate. This news comes after a recent survey by ITIC. The reason for the surge in DBMS is that most companies didn't upgrade much technology last year do to the country's recession. Company's must now upgrade do to the software is now out of date.

DBMS plans to do a lot to get potential customers. Researchers say that cost interoperability and performance will be the deciding factors for consumers. The difficult part for vendors especially new vendors is getting companies to change vendors.

Well, I hope that companies do make there software affordable for the masses. I think it would be a great idea for companies to start purchasing new software it usually a sign that the job market is looking up.

Outlook LinkedIn Connector

Linkined is now connected with Microsoft Outlook. According to PCworld.com "LinkedIn Outlook connector allows you to keep up to date with your LinkedIn connections, integrates their contact information into Outlook, and allows you to add new LinkedIn connections right from your desktop." Getting setup with the connector is said to be time consuming first you need to have the 32 bit version of Microsoft Outlook 2010, download the add-on from Microsoft's website. The connector does not work in older versions of Outlook including all outlook express versions, and 2010 Outlook 64-bit version. Next you have log in to LinkIn and install the connector add-on. After downloading the connector Microsoft has detailed setup instructions.

Whenever you open a message in Microsoft Outlook from anyone in your LinkedIn network, you will see information pulled from your contact's LinkedIn profile below the message pane. You will be able to see their profile photo, latest status messages, recently added connections and see any recent questions they've asked or answered. Microsoft is planning to expand its connection options to include Myspace, Facebook and other social networks to add to its social connector.

I think that the social connector will be convenient for many people who use social networks regularly. It is also good for people who use Outlook but the draw back is its not available in other Outlook versions.

About iteration 1

Well I've been in class for a few weeks now and I'm learning bit by bit. This is my first time working with JavaScript and Ajax. So I know there's a big learning curve. I was really nervous about iteration 1. I know the professor said that the first program would be pretty simple, well maybe simple for someone who has had JavaScript experience. I got started on iteration 1 a week early. I don't think i knew exactly what to do. I used the professors example as a reference and then I went from there.

I had a bit of trouble in the beginning, I had a few errors in the program. in the script tag i forget to put the name of my JavaScript file. Also the naming of titles in my HTML didn't match the names in the JavaScript. The biggest issue is just trying figure out why the program is not working. I found after checking for errors several times and then loading my program to the server it finally worked. It only worked when i put it on the server. I know the professor and several other students said that loading the program to the server may help.

I think the hardest part of iteration one is figuring out how to start or what you want your program to do. once you plan it you just need to put the program together sometimes its easier said then done.

Stressed

I'm learning a little bit about Ajax. This is my first encounter programming Ajax this semester. I must say it not always easy learning programming languages. I was working on the 1st lab I forgot how easy you can make a mistake coding and feel like your lost forever.

I have learned how to not stress about programming or at least not too much. If I'm stuck trying to figure out on how to code or how to make the program work the way I want, I will usually take a break from the problem for awhile maybe evening sleep on it. Then the next day get back to working on it. Asking for help or doing a bit more research will also help. According to the American Institute of Stress Stress is difficult for scientists to define because it is a subjective sensation associated with varied symptoms that differ for each of us. there are ways to help with stress. There are several stress management tips for students that might me helpful.

I know as students we often deal with alot of stress. Like having three exams on the same day and trying to allocate enough time to study for each. Trying to figure out what went wrong when coding. remember not all stress is bad and when it gets to stressful try some stress management tips.

Apple's New Idea

Well, I recently read an article that Apple has a big surprise for consumers. The company has scheduled a press conference on January 27, 2010. Experts believe that Apple may reveal there next big idea, the Apple tablet. Apple lovers are curious on what apple will deliver. Will it be an enlarged version of an iPhone or will the setup be completely mind blowing? The tablet is expected to be a 10 or 11 inch touch screen with wireless capabilities and possible cost is around $1,000.

Apple with the help of Steve Jobs has become the leader in digital music downloads via there application Itunes music store. Also itunes are capitalising on the smart phone apps via there extensive App store. Other big products from Apple are the ipods, itouch and the iPhone.

I myself use some of Apples products like there ipod and there itunes store. I just hope that apple doesn't disappoint consumers. I know apple is doing well with the iPhone which is pocket computer but can they replicate that success with a tablet which is larger scaled.

Pico Projector

Wow I've beening thinking for nearly a week now on what to write about in my first class blog. I found an interesting article online about cell phones. I read in an article today that Texas Instrument, TI-DPL , is dueling over two models of a cell phone projector called pico projectors. TI sees the pico projector as there biggest DPL revenue maker. Samsung leased one of the first cell phone projectors last year . The only big draw back to Samsung's projector is the large size of the cellphone. Samsung is now on the second generations which is much thinner, cost starting at $399.

Projector phones are predicted to replace the need for laptops and equipment heavy projectors in the work place areas like, conference rooms and meeting areas. Though the equipment is not main stream yet experts believe it could become almost a standard on cellphones like digital cameras are now in the next five years. Currently, the Sydiant projectors can display up to 1024 X 600 pixels and the projector screens are as small as a penny. So there is a lot of competition in the pico projector market.

Well, I think the cell projector is a good idea. Consumers might buy into the need for a projector. The projector can be used to show friends pictures or share a video. I think it might me easier to use the cell phone projector than the standard ones because of the less equipment that is needed. I don't think it will ever completely do away with the standard projector.
