Facebooks new safety center

Facebook recently redesigned their safety center which is aimed at parents, educators, law enforcement officials and teens. It was launched on Tuesday, and was created to make sure that the site's 400 million users are networking safely.

Joe Sullivan, Facebooks Chief Security Officer, says that the site is more efficient now, although he doesn't include a reason as to why it is more efficient. I think that he just thinks that saying it is will make people think that they are safer when using Facebook?

Privacy settings are also explained in detail on the new page, as well as how to block users, remove unwanted content from a profile page and anonymously report abusive behavior. The online center is a result of Facebook’s collaboration with its Safety Advisory Board.

  1. It's good that people are beginning to pay more attention to their online privacy. I've always found it weird that people allow everyone to see their information, as well as photos and other private things online. To me it's a bit like leaving your house unlocked and then putting a sign on your door saying "come on in". Anyway, it's good to see that people are beginning to pay attention

  2. I was so mad at them when my facebook account got hacked..and it changed all my privacy settings. It was amazed to see all this because facebook being such a widely used networking site has not been responsible enough to keep it secure. I think security is still an issue with facebook no matter what they say.

  3. Wow, I didn't know Facebook messed with their security settings again. In the past, when they would change something in security or privacy, it would reset all the settings you had earlier and expect you to do it all over again. I believe thats how all the pictures were seen on Facebook's founders page. Anyways, I think the way to keep Facebook most secure, is to use it for what it is for, Networking. And not to click on every single app invite or install the latest farm game.

  4. Really though, privacy is a fairly modern concept. It used to be that many of the communities or cities were far too small for there to be any sense of privacy - you had to be "that guy" if you wanted to live your life in any shadow. I really think that privacy came about because of how quickly the internet took off, allowing people to steal your identity... but that is just me.

  6. I think it is very important for Facebook to continue to focus on security. More and more users are working with Facebook. I can see the headline now... Facebook user lost everything due to too much information shown to other users.
