Windows 7

After the massacre Microsoft had with the release of vista, it's time to get in good graces with the people. Microsoft will be releasing there new operating system called "Windows 7" Windows Vista was so bad people would buy new computers and ask for windows XP to be installed.

With the new windows 7 Microsoft created a new operating system from the ground up instead of building on top of the current operating system. It is said to have less bugs and should be compatible with many of your programs. Windows 7 was designed to run smoother , be more responsive and help users find and use thing right away.

The basic version of windows 7 will cost users around $120 bucks. That's pretty expensive if you shelled out $150 a few years ago for Vista. Many people have to have the latest and greatest equipment out show they will be the first in line to get the new op system. Hopefully Microsoft did there homework this time and created an operating system that the mass will like.

  1. Justin,

I have the RC of Windows 7 running on my home desktop and I think it is a very solid operating system. Some of the cool features include plug & play for your USB devices. This means 7 will install your device drivers for you. I was able to plug my printer in and use it within 1 minute! 7 has the same look as Vista, but it runs way faster and has a lot more cool features.

p.s. After spending time on Vista I didn't think it was half bad. I think so many people hated it because they ran it on systems with only 1 gig of memory so it constantly seemed bogged down.

  2. Hey Justin, It's true that Vista got a lot of criticism from people. I personally used it fairly often without thany huge issues. I think the idea of Vista being terrible sorta caught on and everyone just hated it whether they tried it or not! I will admit, though that I prefer XP and I downloaded the Beta of Windows 7 and like that slightly better also. The difference this time was that instead of starting from complete scratch and building a brand new operating system like they did with Vista, Windows built upon the already stable version of XP, resulting in a stable yet more visually appealing Windows 7. There's no doubt that Vista was somewhat of a memory hog, but let's be honest, XP is also, so that doesn't give enough reason to hate it just for that.

What I'm most excited about in the Windows 7 release is the ability to run XP with it, meaning that there won't be any problems with programs which aren't compatible with 7 or that don't run on 64-bit machines...and they're including as a FREE download. That beats a virtual machine anyday! :)

    Anyway, nice post Justin.

  3. Justin, I recently purchased a new lap top and it includes free upgrading to Windows 7, towards the end of October, when it is to be released. I am excited to learn about all of the features available anytime a new software product is released. I realize that often there are many glitches intially but usually patches correct those issues and in the end, as we become more familiar with the product we end up liking it. Hopefully this will be the case with Windows 7!

  6. I was one of those people that requested XP over Windows Vista. They really had some problems with that operating system. It will be interesting to see how people react to Windows 7.

  8. I am a current user of Vista, it like all softwares has some things i really like and some not so much. Overall i like the format/look of Vista and haven't had any real issues with it as far as drivers/software working with it. It did force me to update my version of Minitab from v13 to v15, but since i use v15 at work anyhow this was a minor inconveince to me. I probably won't upgrade any of my current systems to Windows 7, opting to save the money and just wait until i replace one.

Although Jessica from the Microsoft team is tempting me with the $30 student upgrade. But for me is kinda why fix that that i don't think is broken. I will admit that Vista is not the most resource efficient and Windows 7 fixes some of this, but my systems are powerful enough for me not to worry about resources.
