Google Sidewiki

so I am browsing through PCWorld news and I am stopped by an article about Google's new Sidewiki. It is a feature that is available for your toolbar in internet explorer and Firefox. This newest tool allows you to post comments about any page that you visit and also lets you see what others using Sidewiki have to say. I actually downloaded the tool just to check it out and its actually pretty cool. All you have to do is go to any website and click the Sidewiki box in the toolbar and it will open a sidebar showing comments and an option to write and entry.

Google also implemented a feature to filter out spam or other comments that may not be relevant to the content of the site you are visiting by using a "quality algorithm". It also allows users to vote on comments and how useful they are and ranks them accordingly. It also gives you the ability to share comments through email, Facebook, Twitter, or Web link. The one catch that Google ha is that you do have to have a Google account, which many people already have. If you want to learn more about Sidewiki you can download the latest version of Google Toolbar.

There is also a youtube video that you can check out more about Sidewiki.

  1. I have just downloaded it and I'm not sure how I'm I going to benefit from it. Nevertheless, it seems like a good feedback though. Somehow it connects people. Google has been developing about anything these days. It is so hard to keep up :)

  2. Yeah, it is fairly new so there are not a lot of sites that actually have comments, but I think there will be once people start realizing it is there.

  3. It makes sense. Eventually, it could be a good resource for owners of these websites to work on making them better and better.

  4. Another way for Google to capture data about websites and hence, improve their search. Behind the madness of free applications Google offers, there is system. They want more data! With more data, the better their search algorithms will become.
